Tips on Saving Money On Your Heating

  • 1. If you boilers is older than 10 years consider buying a new condensing boiler. The best high efficiency condensing boilers convert more than 90% of their fuel into heat, compared to 78% for conventional types.

  • 2. Loft Insulation - Loft insulation that is 270mm thick will save you upto 20% off your heating bills.

  • 3. Cavity wall insulation - Almost 33% off all the heat lost in your home is through the walls you could save on average around £90 a year on your gas bill.

  • 4. Floor Insulation - Gaps and draughts around skirting boards and floors are simple to fix yourself with just a tube of sealant. This could save you around £40 a year.

  • 5. Draught proofing - A typical UK home will loose about 20 per cent of its heat through poor ventilation and draughts. So buy a brush kit for your letterbox, and fit drought brushes to the bottom of your exterior doors.

  • 6. Hot tank and pipe insulation - By insulating your hot pipes and your hot tank you could also make a saving on your heating bill.

  • 7. Double Glazing - Double glazing will cut the heat loss through winows by half and can save you over £100 a year.

  • 8. Have a shower instead of a bath.

  • 9. Never leave the hot tap running - Dont leave the hot tap on when brushing your teeth or shaving as this just throws money down the drain.

  • 10. Place silver foil behind the radiators in your house that are on an outside wall.
